Breakfast Meals While Traveling.

I’m writing this one on the road! We took a family trip to save me from driving home after a late night conference in Toronto. What better reason to fit in some family time? I find that little getaways like this really allow us to connect as a family. When we stay in a hotel we don’t have any of the every stresses that plague us at home. Dirty dishes, laundry to wash, bedtimes to follow. We can just relax and enjoy each others company.

To make sure we can afford to have a getaway whenever the mood strikes we make sure we keep costs low. If you like to stay in a motel, hotel, bed and breakfast or other place there are savings to be found at breakfast time. Although breakfast is only a small part, it can really add up if you are staying multiple nights.

Why you should always factor in breakfast when booking a hotel room

In some cases we have even started paying a bit more for a place that includes breakfast. You need to do your research and make sure the breakfast will actually fed you but most hotels have a very decent option. Saving $10 on the hotel doesn’t make sense if you are going to turn around and spend $40 on breakfast elsewhere.

If you can not find a place in the area you want that includes breakfast there is the option to bring your breakfast meal from home. A bowl of cereal is a very easy thing to bring along. It’s also nice to have the milk to drink too while relaxing in the room.

I now find our morning run easier, no more where are we going to eat today.  Our food costs for trips a bit more manageable as well.

Is there anything you do to help save on breakfast costs while you are on vacation and away from home? I would love to hear about in the comments below.

  1. You do have to be careful when eating breakfast at hotels on the road. Last year, when my husband and I were in Paris, all of the restaurants were closed for a holiday and we had no choice but to eat a 20€/person breakfast buffet (approximately $30/person). Granted we should have researched the holiday (May 1) a bit more before going on our trip, but it still came as a shock to us since we are used to spending $20 or $30 per meal back home and not $60!
