My #1 Favorite Book for Living a Frugal Lifestyle

I’m asked all the time how we can afford to live on one income with 3 kids. I never know how to answer this as it’s not a one sentence answer. I believe a big factor is the fact that besides our mortgage we have no debt. To help keep things that way we NEVER charge more to our credit card than we have sitting in the bank.

The second main “thing” that we do to save money is actually about a million little things! If you have been reading my blog for a while now you will have noticed it’s not centered on one topic like many blogs out there, there is a reason for that. 1st I don’t think that every idea I have will work for every reader, and 2nd it takes a lot of different things to help me stay at home with the kids. Couponing on it’s own isn’t enough if your still filling your cart with over priced and unneeded items. If you use your dryer, throw out lots of useful items, don’t purchase in bulk or buy items on impulse your not going to get anywhere.

Luckily there is a “go to” guide I read years ago. I took it out of the library so many times I finally decided to purchase it! Continue reading

Wedding Registry in the Digital Age

If you are planning a wedding one of the things on your to-do list should be to register for wedding gifts. Where I live we have Sears or a small shop downtown where you can register for gifts. That’s it 2 places, it doesn’t give much of an option for my guests. They are also higher end places and not everyone wants to spend s ton of money on a wedding gift. What’s a bride to do? Enter the digital wedding registry on MyRegistry.com to make things easier. You can register for gifts from ANY store online or brick and mortar. Your guests can than choose what gift they want to purchase and what store they want to shop at.

Time to register for gifts? Perhaps for your wedding? Check out this online gift registry, you can even register for cash. Complete with an app, so you can register on the go too/

MyRegistry.com has got to be one of my favorite discoveries during the wedding planning process. The option to have a online wishlist and have products on it from any store is very handy, not just for us but for our guests as well.

How does it work? You go the MyRegistry.com website (can click the photo below to go directly there). Fill in the form to sign up. You can choose to set up a password so only people you invite can see and find your registry. Set the setting to what you are comfortable with.

Once you sign in you can start adding items to you wedding registry. I strongly suggest adding the tool they offer to your favorites bar. It makes it very easy to add ANY item you find on-line and saves you the time of going back to the registry website for each item.

Add items from any website on the internet onto one universal gift registry

The app they offer is very handy for registering for gifts on the go. You can use it to search websites to add items to your gift registry. You can also use your phone as you would when registering for gifts the standard way, just use the barcode scanner on the app. There is a place for notes if you wish to tell your guests where they can find the items, or what color you would like.

My favorite thing about this online registry is that you can use it for more than just your wedding. You can keep it open and use it for other gift giving events. Or open a registry for just gift giving occasions. I will be keeping mine open for Christmas and birthday gift ideas for sure. There is also the option for a baby registry.

I like to keep a wish list for each of us so that when people ask what we want as gifts we get things we need. Saves us having to return things we can’t use. It’s also a great way to keep our budget in line as if we want something but don’t have the money we just add it to our wishlist.

They also have a great selection of items for sale that can help you in planning your special day. Favors, wedding party gifts, wedding day details. Check out there store here. You can even save 15% off your order, just use the coupon code SAVE15 when you checkout. They offer free personalization on your purchase too.

Get Naked with Herbal Essences

Over a month ago I was given the chance to try the new Herbal Essences line of product, Naked Volume. I got a full size shampoo, conditioner and soufflé to try. I loved that this gave me the perfect excuse to have a shower regularly; as a new mom it was usually too hard to get the shower to myself.

Herbal Essences new product line, Naked Volume. Paraben and Dye free!

Did this shampoo blow away my current one? Continue reading

Spring London Baby Expo – How was it?

This past weekend I went to the London Baby Expo. Trevor was stuck working so I took my oldest and youngest with me. Our active toddler William was much happier spending the day outside with Nana & Grandad. If we could have gone as a family it would have been a great day out! They had TONS of things for the kids to do with dad while mom checks out all information and does some shopping.

How was the London Baby Expo? Check out this post. Iyou missed it this spring make sure you check out the one in the fall
