If you have a young daughter odds are you have Barbies in the house. If they are ever played with that means you know as soon as they are out of the box the hair looks like she was stuck in a tornado. Or is my daughter just hard on her toys? I decided it was time to try and find a way to tame these crazy hair styles. I found 2 methods I decided to try, could fabric softener really help? Here is the outcome of my “test”.
First I tried just brushing the barbies hair and used warm water to help straighten it. Just like this post from Housing A Forest suggested. It did a great job and was very quick to do.
I also tried the fabric softener way. Dunking them straight in than brushing the “knots” out. Don’t forget to rinse them after. You can find the full run down at Dizzy’s Playhouse.
Both methods did a great job. It was hard to say which on did a better job. I was curious, was it the mixture that made these dolls look so much better, or could brushing alone be enough? Here is my test. As you can see the fabric softener soak really did help on keeping down the poof, picture doesn’t show it as good though.
After my daughter saw how great her Barbies looked she was ready to have the rest of them done. So we poured the rest of the fabric softener mix into a spray bottle and got down to fixing more hair. The spray method works just as well as dunking them in. It’s also a lot more fun.
Here are the girls all together for comparison. Wish I would have done a group shot for before and after.
Have you ever set up a salon for your barbie’s or other dolls? I’d love to heard about it.
